My Rottweiler has had surgery for bloat! September 6, 2009
My beloved Rottweiler became ill September 1st, 2009, and we had to rush him to the emergency vet for surgery for the life threatening and very serious canine health condition, bloat. It is also know as GDV or gastric dilatation volvulus, and bloat is the second leading cause of death in dogs, second only to cancer.
After a successful surgery and a long recovery period ahead, he will require follow up care, prescriptions and a special diet. Needless to say, I am not a wealthy person. I do get by day by day, but the cost of the surgery (on loan) and just the few days of aftercare he received is over $3000.00 USD. This is something we will not soon recuperate from, and I suspect that his recovery will be much quicker.
I would like to report with a very happy heart, he is recovering and showing no signs of long term problems…he is a very lucky dog, and we are tremendously lucky to have him with us. He is still in pain, which is understandable, but we are managing with pain medication.
I understand that economic times have lessened the ability for people to donate when someone is in need. I understand that there are people hungry, and pets hungry as well. There are many people that must make the decision to euthanize or put their pet to sleep because it is not possible to get a friend or family member to help them when money is tight, and they are not able to secure a loan for services. I hope to help someone not ever have to make that decision!

Results? Not so bad for 48--at least I hope so
So I thought, let’s do an after picture!
